Dr Nick Drydakis, lead researcher in the study conducted at Anglia Ruskin University said common psychological theories support the notion that those individuals who are fulfilled at home would be more successful at work.
“Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory claims that the happier and more fulfilled individuals are in their lives, the more productive and successful they will be in their work, translating to higher profits and of course, wages,”. Drydakis added that the theory concludes that people need to love and be loved, sexually and non-sexually by others and if these affections are absent, people may become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety and depression – all of which he says are factors that can affect their working life. What this means is that, if members of staff are unhappy, anxious, stressed and facing emotional problem, they will not be able to perform well on their jobs.
Their productivity and performance will reduce drastically. In addition, their interpersonal relations both at home and on the job may suffer more. The success of institutions, industries or any work sector is therefore greatly influenced by the emotional stability of its staff.
